AXON – Silloge di iscrizioni storiche greche

Posted on behalf of Stefania De Vido

The scientific team of the Greek Epigraphy Lab is pleased to announce the launch of AXON, a database of Greek historical inscriptions, financed by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and coordinated by Stefania De Vido.

AXON is a potentially ever growing online edition of a wide selection of epigraphic texts (selected according to the broad notion of “historical inscription”), provided with complete lemma and critical apparatus, Italian translation, commentary, and updated bibliography. This digital anthology will be progressively improved by scholars: a first set of documents is currently available and freely accessible, together with some useful materials: an aid for scholars and students alike. The website is mostly in Italian at the moment, but we are working to provide users with an English translation of its contents.

AXON is a member of Europeana EAGLE Project and is supported by the Istituto Italiano per la Storia Antica. Our database will contribute to the international panorama of the Digital Humanities: it provides a shared epigraphic vocabulary, a SEG-derived and widely implemented bibliography, and accurate indexing.

For further information, please visit Axon web-site or contact us via e-mail: axon@unive.it.

BSR Postgraduate Epigraphy Course: Final call

The BSR Postgraduate Course in Epigraphy returns for a third time from 11-20 July 2016. This course will focus on ‘Inscriptions in Context’ considering epigraphy in both the archaeological, historical, virtual and museum environments in Rome. The course will offer practical experiences (rubbings, recording, publishing translations, and intro to EpiDoc) as well as more detailed research presentations by a number of leading scholars in the field. The application deadline is 31 January 2016.

Applicants are welcome to contact the course coordinator, Dr Abigail Graham: Abigail.graham@warwick.ac.uk.

A provisional syllabus and further particulars about the research proposal are on my staff page, https://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/classics/staff/graham as is a link to the BSR webpage and application.

https://www.bsr.ac.uk/welcome-to-rome/taught-courses/epigraphy

The BSR course is taught back-to-back with a course offered by the American Academy in Rome. Each course can be enrolled in separately and stands independently, but instruction is coordinated so that participants enrolling in both courses will encounter little overlap and will benefit from a more complete introduction to the rich epigraphic heritage of the city of Rome. The application deadline for the AAR course is 31 January 2016. Full information on this course can be found on the AAR website:

Call for participants to an epigraphic workshop

BANDO PER UN LABORATORIO DI FORMAZIONE IN EPIGRAFIA DEL MONDO ROMANO SUL TEMA “LE CARRIERE AL SERVIZIO DELL’IMPERO”,
12-16 SETTEMBRE 2016

dondin_payre@club-internet.fr
gianluca.gregori@uniroma1.it
