The Institute of Classical Studies, University of London and Department of History and Cultures, Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna invite applications for a one-week, online workshop in EpiDoc XML and digital epigraphy and papyrology. EpiDoc is a leading standard for the digital encoding of ancient inscriptions, papyri and other primary and documentary texts in TEI XML for online publication and interchange. The workshop will cover the encoding of ancient texts in XML, sources of information and support on EpiDoc, and introduce the EFES platform for viewing and publishing EpiDoc editions.
The workshop will be held remotely online from April 12–16, 2021, and will involve asynchronous tutorials and exercises as well as real-time discussion and feedback sessions. All tuition will be in English, with the possibility of asking questions in Italian. No preexisting technical knowledge is required, but participants are expected to be familiar with the transcription conventions for inscriptions and papyri (“Leiden”), and either Greek, Latin or other ancient languages of their epigraphic tradition.
To apply for a place on this workshop, please send a brief explanation of your motivation for seeking EpiDoc training (including any projects you will work on) to gabriel.bodard@sas.ac.uk by February 21st, 2021. The fee is normally £100 for the week, but if you would like to request the unwaged rate of £50, please confirm that you have sought funding from your institution to cover the fees and that none is available. Applicants will be informed of acceptance on the workshop by the end of February.

L’Institute of Classical Studies, University of London, e il Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà, Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, invitano a presentare domanda per una settimana di workshop online di EpiDoc XML (https://epidoc.stoa.org/) e di epigrafia e papirologia digitale. EpiDoc è lo standard principale per la codifica digitale di iscrizioni, papiri ed altre fonti documentarie antiche in TEI XML per la pubblicazione online e l’interscambio. Il workshop tratterà della codifica di testi antichi in XML, fornirà informazioni e supporto su EpiDoc e introdurrà la piattaforma EFES (http://github.com/EpiDoc/EFES) per la visualizzazione e la pubblicazione di edizioni EpiDoc.
Il workshop sarà tenuto in remoto online dal 12 al 16 aprile 2021, e prevedrà lezioni ed esercitazioni asincrone e discussioni e sessioni di feedback in tempo reale. Il training sarà tenuto interamente in inglese, con la possibilità di porre domande anche in italiano. Non sono richieste precedenti competenze tecniche, ma è richiesto che i partecipanti abbiano familiarità con le convenzioni proprie della trascrizione di iscrizioni e papiri (“Leiden”) e con il greco antico o il latino o con altre lingue antiche della propria tradizione epigrafica.
Per presentare domanda per il workshop è richiesto l’invio di una breve illustrazione delle motivazioni per cui si desidera ricevere una formazione EpiDoc (includendo eventuali progetti su cui state lavorando o lavorerete) a gabriel.bodard@sas.ac.uk entro il 21 febbraio 2021. La quota di iscrizione di base è di £100; chi desidera richiedere la quota ridotta di £50 deve dare conferma di aver cercato presso la propria istituzione finanziamenti per la copertura della quota e di non averne trovati. Coloro che hanno presentato domanda saranno informati riguardo all’accettazione al workshop entro fine febbraio.
